La playa
Ahora que amaina el viento
del oeste, vayamos
hacia la playa tormentosa.
Ya han de estar allí unas pocas
almas valientes, siguiendo
el tronco a la deriva,
el raído manojo azul
de cabos sintéticos,
que se cortó y volvió a la costa -
Rara especie- trajinando
la misma bahía todos
nosotros, como quien espera
un prodigio o desea
una vida distinta.
The Beach
Now this big westerly´s
blown itself out,
let´s drive to the storm beach.
A few brave souls
will be there already,
eyeing the driftwood,
the heaps of frayed
blue polyprop rope,
cut loose, thrown back at us -
What a species-
still working the same
curved bay, all of us
hoping for the marvellous
al hankering for a chaged life.

Avistaje de ballenas
Y cuando al fin desaparezca
el sendero, caminaré
-pasto duro, gaviotas, rocas
con líquenes incrustados-
refugiándome del frío
verano en alguna azotada
caravana, de esas que van
entre las olas vítreas,
hasta que mis ojos se evaporen
y quiera otra vez volver
al comercio conmigo misma:
habiéndolas visto emerger,
respirar y sumergirse lejos
en el resplandor, como puntadas
de una rasgada tela que ya
no es posible componer.

The Whale-watcher
And when at last the road
gives out, I´ll walk
-harsh grass, sea maws,
liche-crusted bedrock-
and hole up the cold
summer in some battered
caravan, quartering
the brittle waves
till my eyes evaporate
and I`m willing again
to deal myself in:
having wathed them
breach, breathe, and dive
far out in the glare,
like stitches sewn in a rent
almost beyond repair.
